JERUSALEM, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Israeli striker Eran Zahavi, twice top scorer of the Chinese Super League (CSL), returned to Maccabi Tel Aviv on a two-year contract, said a statement issued by the Israeli club on Sunday.
The striker, who will turn 35 next month, has played for PSV Eindhoven for the past two seasons, scoring 37 goals in all competitions, and winning the 2022 Dutch Cup with the club after a 2-1 win over Ajax Amsterdam in the final.
Earlier, he played in China's Guangzhou R&F between 2016 and 2020, topping the CSL's scorers list in 2017 with 27 goals, and in 2019 with an all-time league record of 29 goals.
Before moving to China, Zahavi played three and a half seasons at Maccabi Tel Aviv, in which he scored 157 goals in all competitions, and led the club to three Israeli league championship titles and one state cup.
Zahavi began his senior career back in 2006 at Maccabi's bitter rivals Hapoel Tel Aviv, with whom he won one league championship and two state cups.
In 2011 he moved to the Serie A side Palermo, but after an unsuccessful period of a year and a half, he joined Maccabi Tel Aviv to raise his career again.
His record also includes 33 goals and 70 caps for the Israeli national team.
Zahavi, who now preferred Maccabi over Brazilian side Botafogo, said that he is excited to be able to rejoin his former club.
"I would like to thank Maccabi's fans who I could not let down as the heart didn't allow me to make any other choice," he added.
"Striving for excellence and pushing for achievements is something I intend to do whilst giving everything to help my teammates," he concluded.
