THE HAGUE, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- PSV and Chelsea reached an agreement on the transfer of Noni Madueke to England, both clubs announced on Friday night.
The 20-year-old forward joins the Premier League club for an undisclosed fee, while according to Dutch media, the transfer fee is around 35 to 40 million euros. Madueke signed a seven-and-a-half-year contract, with a club option to extend for a further year. He had a contract until 2025 in Eindhoven.
PSV signed Madueke in the summer of 2018 from Tottenham Hotspur when the England youth international was 16 years old. Due to injuries he was not able to fulfill his potential in the Netherlands, but when fit he impressed with dribbles, assists and goals. He scored 20 goals in 79 appearances for PSV.
"I'm really pleased to sign with one of the best clubs in the world in Chelsea," Madueke told the Chelsea website. "To return to England and play in the Premier League is a dream for me and my family and I can't wait to get started. I am excited for what the future holds, the owner's vision for the future and to be at a club like this and winning at the highest level."
The left-footed right winger becomes the second addition of the week for Chelsea after Mykhailo Mudryk, who arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk. For PSV it is the second major loss this winter transfer window as the club, currently placed fourth in the Eredivisie, already lost Dutch winger Cody Gakpo to Liverpool.
"When you look at our position in the football pyramid, you know there will be deals to which you simply can't say no," explained PSV general manager Marcel Brands on the club's website. "Noni told us months ago he wanted to return home to England, also for personal reasons. Chelsea made us an offer we could not refuse. We have already sold Cody Gakpo but look to bolster our squad with some new signings."
